Raid Conducted by Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development on Local Electronics Retailer, Resulting in Seizure of Counterfeit SD Memory Cards, Estimated Retail Value $9,400.
On or about December 19, 2023, the Department of Economic Development (DED) Investigators inspected the premises of a local electronics retailer located in Abu Dhabi, which lead to the seizure of approximately 375 counterfeit SD memory cards infringing on the microSDHC and microSDXC trademarks. The estimated retail value of the confiscated memory cards had they been genuine is approximately $9,400.
The DED imposed a penalty, and the retailer was fined $2,800 for their involvement in selling counterfeit SD memory cards infringing on SD-3C LLC’s intellectual property. In addition, the counterfeit goods were destroyed under the supervision of the DED.
